Laminate Match Finishes Program

Laminate Match Finishes Program Summary

Our Laminate Match Finish Program is designed to closely approximate popular WilsonArtTM high-pressure laminates in use today. Manufacturers may use these stains on solid wood components in applications in which laminated parts such as end panes also appear.

Specific wood species and customized wiping stains are combined to provide the most favorable match in appearance to the laminate.

Popular laminates have also been matched on multiple species in some cases to provide the most favorable match in appearance to the laminate.

Program Guidelines

The species we use for given laminate simulations have been selected for overall appearance and may or may not be the same as used in the laminate nomenclature. For instance, Windsor mahogany by WilsonArtTM is best achieved on White Birch.

Because we use a consistent, non-opaque wiping process, factors such as wood color, natural characteristics and density can cause variation in the appearance of the final piece. We maintain control samples, which have been provided as the best match to given laminates. If the final piece matches the control sample within allowable limits, the product will be considered acceptable.

Laminates are a man-made substance and tend to be consistent in color, texture and gloss. In contrast, wood is a product of nature and can vary greatly. Therefore, one door may match its laminate counterpart better than another in terms of color, grain, texture and gloss. Please Note:  We use a 15° sheen topcoat on all laminate matched stains.

There are numerous manufacturers of laminates in the industry. In many cases, manufacturers use the same name to identify laminates that bear no resemblance to each other. Products that are cross-referenced from one manufacturer to another may also vary slightly. For this reason, we have specifically chosen to mach WilsonArt’sTM high-pressure laminate. Our laminate match finish selection is based on the popularity of these laminates and our ability to complement their appearance on solid wood.
